A Great Success - The First 100 Days of car2go in Vienna
« on: March 17, 2012, 10:13:25 AM »
    7,000 registered car2go customers after 100 days
More than 10,000 rentals per week
Special anniversary offer: 60 free driving minutes for new customers in the car2go shop on 19 March

VIENNA – car2go has been successfully launched in the Austrian capital, Vienna. After just 100 days, more than 7,000 Viennese have already registered for the new mobility service. Vienna is therefore one of the car2go cities with the most successful launches.
"We are thrilled to receive this great reception from Vienna", says Robert Henrich, Managing Director of car2go GmbH. "Our customers are already using car2go very enthusiastically and are full of praise for its flexibility."
"A major chapter in the worldwide success story of car2go is being written in Vienna," confirms Klaus Entenmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler Financial Services, who is responsible for car2go at the Daimler Group. "And the beginning of this chapter is extremely promising."
On December 5, 2011 the car2go team started distributing 500 smart fortwo vehicles in Vienna. Since then there have been more than 60,000 rentals and there are currently more than 10,000 new journeys each week. More than 80 percent of rentals last less than 45 minutes with an average distance between 5 and 10 kilometres. This is in line with the basic car2go idea of offering a service for short inner city journeys. The age structure of Viennese customers corresponds to the international average of car2go cities: approximately 20 percent of car2go customers are younger than 25. 35 percent are between age 26 and 35, 30 percent are between 36 and 49 and 15 percent are in the 50 plus age group.
After registering in the car2go shop for a one-off registration fee of €9.90 customers can spontaneously rent available car2go vehicles on the street or find and reserve them via the internet and smartphone applications. The selected vehicle can be opened with the help of a membership card. At their destination customers can leave the car2go in any public parking space and in short-term parking areas inside the operating area free of charge. This is possible because car2go pays parking fees to the city of Vienna. Customers therefore have complete freedom with regard to when they start their journey, how long they keep the vehicle and their destination. Charges are by the minutes driven (€0.29) and parked (€0.09) with discounted prices for hourly and daily use.
To celebrate the first 100 days, the car2go team in Vienna has a special anniversary offer: all new customers who register for the first time in the car2go shop on March 19 will receive credit for a free 60 minute test drive instead of the normal 30 minutes (value: 60 driving minutes at 29 cents = €17.40). Should they have any questions customers can either stop by the car2go shop on Hinteren Zollamtsstraße 9, 1030 Vienna, or they can send an email to wien@car2go.com.
car2go was invented by Daimler in 2008 and is already operating successfully in nine cities in Europe, the USA and in Canada. Nearly 3,000 vehicles are currently in operation for more than 70,000 customers.
