car2go Vancouver announced today a partnership with Kwantlen Student Association. This partnership will provide Kwantlen University students with more transportation options between campuses, a monthly subsidy to use the car2go services, and an expanded operating area.
Students of Kwantlen University can register with car2go free of charge and will be able to pick up a smart fortwo car2go vehicle at any one of the dedicated car2go parking spots located at the Richmond, Surrey, Langley and Cloverdale campuses. The Kwantlen Student Association Multipass Program will subsidize a fixed amount per month, per student. Starting September 6, 2011, each eligible student will receive a 20 minute driving credit towards the car2go service each month.
“Kwantlen University and the Kwantlen Student Association are committed to bringing innovative and alternative modes of transportation to our students,” said Benjamin Newsom, Multipass Program Coordinator for Kwantlen Student Association. “We believe this partnership with car2go is a great addition to our Multipass Program and will provide students with the choice of another practical method of transportation, allowing them to move more easily between our four campuses.”
car2go is the world’s first free-floating carsharing service. It provides its members with the opportunity to rent the smart fortwo car2go vehicles spontaneously without the requirement to commit to a specific return time or location. Kwantlen University students can start a trip on one campus and finish their rental in one of the designated car2go parking spots on another campus, or inside the car2go operating area downtown.
“We are pleased to be working with Kwantlen University in their effort to support smart urban living and sustainable transportation options,” said Nicholas Cole President and CEO of car2go Canada Ltd. “We are confident the students of Kwantlen University will find car2go to be an easy, cost-effective and environmentally responsible way to travel between campuses, as well as a great option for all of their transportation needs.”
KwantlenUniversityhas 18,000 students studying at four lower-mainland university campuses. Most students attend classes at more than one campus, and transit service levels vary greatly at some locations. In addition to providing a universal bus pass to its membership, the Multipass Program was created as a multi-service program which offers an extensive range of value-added services to university students that seek a more sustainable and healthy lifestyle. The Multipass Program includes such services as subsidized organic food delivery, subsidized gym memberships, an intercampus shuttle, and access to car2go, which will complement existing transit services.
