Mercedes-Benz Canada reported today that a record-breaking total of 3,554 Mercedes-Benz and smart units were delivered to customers in May. This represents the best ever sales results for the group, a gain of 14.3% for the month, and propels year-to-date growth to 5.4% with a total of 13,474 units delivered so far in 2011.
With 3,052 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and luxury light trucks retailed in May, the Mercedes-Benz brand surpassed the 3,000 monthly sales threshold for the first time in the company’s history. This represents the best month ever for the Mercedes-Benz brand, and an increase of 11.0% for the month. Overall, Mercedes-Benz passenger cars sales in May were ahead by 11.2%, and luxury light trucks posted a 10.6% month-over-month gain.
Strong B-Class, C-Class, E-Class, GLK, and R-Class model sales contributed to May’s success. The GLK continued to perform exceedingly well in the luxury compact sport utility segment with a total of 617 units delivered. In addition, B-Class and R-Class sales were ahead by an impressive 37.7% and 77.4% respectively for the month.
The diesel take rate for luxury light trucks was 76.8% for the month, while permanent all-wheel drive 4MATIC™ units accounted for 76.2% of overall passenger car and light truck sales (excluding smart and Sprinter).
smart reported a total of 268 units sold in May, which represents a 9.8% increase from May 2010.
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter sales continued to show positive momentum in May with a total of 234 units retailed. Overall, this equates to a gain of 103.5% or 119 units this month, and propels year-to-date growth to an impressive 159.3% or 583 units with 949 vehicles delivered so far this year.
Mercedes-Benz Pre-Owned sales also reported their best ever month on record with 1,262 vehicles retailed in May. This represents an increase of 235 units or 22.9% this month, and drives year-to-date sales growth to 22.1% with a total of 4,784 units sold so far in 2011.
