DTM in the Olympic Stadium - just 90 more days to go

DTM

Munich - On 16th July, the Olympic Stadium located in Munich’s ’Olympiapark’ will be the venue of a very special DTM event: on a 1.192-kilometre tarmac track specially constructed for this two-day event, the DTM drivers will entertain the crowds with enthralling duels. Under the Olympic Stadium’s tent roof, the visitors will have the chance of enjoying the fascination of DTM in a truly special atmosphere. And an entertaining support programme featuring comedy and live concerts will turn the event into a memorable experience for the entire family.

The two-day event
The event in Munich will provide its visitors two days of motor racing at its best. Responsible for the course of the race action will be DMSB - just as it is the case during the championship rounds. The duels on the track will be contested by the Audi and Mercedes-Benz drivers at the wheel of their regular DTM cars.

In the first phase on Saturday, the DTM drivers will have to compete in a brand-internal battle to find the best Audi and Mercedes-Benz ace respectively and determine the fixtures for the finals on Sunday. In eight brand-internal three-lap duels and two individual three-lap time trials, each of the 18 drivers will try to advance to the round of last 16. In this prologue, it’s not about winning the respective duel but setting a lap time fast enough for advancing to the next round - with the fastest eight drivers of every brand making it to the round of the last 16. In this round as well as in the quarter and semi finals, the drivers will battle in out in brand-internal battles for the position of the fastest Audi and Mercedes-Benz driver respectively. And then, these two drivers will contest the Saturday finale to find out who will be the winner of day one. The race distance of this finale amounts to five laps, including a mandatory pit-stop on lap three.

Then, on Sunday, it’s Audi vs. Mercedes-Benz, with the qualifying times set on Saturday being crucial for the fixtures for the Sunday rounds. In several sessions, the 16 fastest drivers will battle it out for the overall win. At first, the Audi driver who set the fastest lap time on Saturday will have to compete with the slowest Mercedes-Benz driver of day one - and vice versa. In every duel, the drivers will have to come in for a mandatory pit-stop. As every race is a knock-out round, the fastest two drivers will advance to the finale to battle it out for the overall win, there.

Formula 1 cars, ’Chartshow’ and paddock
On both days, the DTM race action will be accompanied by a top-class support programme. In addition to live concerts of international musicians and a comedy programme, Team Red Bull Racing is going to showcase its Formula 1 racer on the track. Furthermore, the ’World of Race Cars’ featuring classic racing cars also will make the hearts of the crowds beat faster. A power-slide show and a motorbike-stunt show will complete the programme for the entire family. And just as it is the case at every regular DTM round, the spectators also can breathe DTM air in the ’Markenwelt’ and the paddock or during pit-walks.

Atze Schröder
For more than 10 years, now, Atze Schröder has been one of Germany’s top comedians. In July 2011 he will demonstrate a new facet of his skills: as co-host of the DTM event. Together with other DTM experts, he will make for the funny aspects of the event.

Atze Schröder gained major popularity by his appearances in the German TV show ’Quatsch Comedy Club’ and an own show on RTL. His tours always are sold out. With his live programmes and TV shows he won numerous awards such as the ’Deutscher Comedy Preis’, the ’Deutscher Fernsehpreis’ and the ’Live Soldout Awards’. His CDs and DVDs regularly make it to gold and platinum. In May 2011, Schröder’s successful tour ’Revolution’ will come to its end and in October, he will begin his next tor with the new programme ’Schmerzfrei’.

The partner series
The MINI Challenge also will make an appearance in the support programme of the DTM event held in the Olympic Stadium. Following several guest appearances in 2010, Cora Schumacher, the wife of DTM ace Ralf Schumacher, is going to contest the full MINI Challenge season, this year. Ambitious professionals, popular racing drivers and representatives of the motoring media will give their very best while battling it out for championship points on both days of the event in the ’Olympiapark’.

The Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup field featuring about 30 competitors represents a mix of motor-racing newcomers, established racing drivers and motor-racing legends who will provide high-level battles for the best lap times. Thanks to the innovative bio-natural-gas drive, the Scirocco R-Cup currently represents the most environmentally sound makes-cup series worldwide. With their 275bhp Cup Sciroccos, the Volkswagen drivers will make for a lot of tyre smoke, in Munich.
