Countdown and action! 2.1 seconds or less – that’s how long a perfect pit stop takes in Formula One. All four wheels are changed during this time, and the driver is back in the race. Every move is perfectly choreographed, because an outstanding team performance is crucial for success. Visitors to the Mercedes-Benz Museum can now experience this for themselves at the new “Pit Stop” station in the racing curve in Legends room 7 – on their own or in a team.
“Three, two, one, go! Since this summer, this has been the name of the game at our new hands-on ‘Pit Stop’. We’ve created an attraction that visitors really love. Everyone wants to be the fastest or deliver the best performance in the team. The ‘Pit Stop’ shows just how well interactive and digital offerings are received. We are continuously expanding them.”
Bettina Haussmann, Director of Mercedes-Benz Museum
In addition to the wheel change, the “Pit Stop” offers further stations. At the pit wall command post, you take on the role of strategist, prepare the race and influence the course of a highly dynamic event via pit radio. And because mental fitness is necessary for all activities in the pit lane, you can also train your decision-making speed on reaction walls.
A Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance Formula One racing car from 2021 hanging vertically on the wall and a display case with overalls, helmet, gloves and shoes from the pit stop team of the time are part of the backdrop for the new hands-on programme. Since Mercedes-Benz re-entered Formula One with its own works team in 2010, the Silver Arrows of today’s Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One team have won eight constructors’ and seven drivers’ titles in the world championship.
The “Pit Stop” station in Legends room 7: Silver Arrows – Races & Records is included in the museum ticket and can be used without pre-registration. Each task can also be tackled individually. The unique backdrop provides the perfect atmosphere: the Museum’s new programme is located directly in front of the racing curve, which spectacularly stages Mercedes-Benz vehicles from 130 years of motorsport.
