Mercedes-Benz Classic will celebrate vehicle anniversaries and commemorate motorsport successes and special company events in 2024. This overview presents prominent topics for 2024:
6 to 14 February 1954 (70 years ago): The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL (W 121) and 300 SL “Gullwing” (W 198) make their début at the International Motor Sports Show in New York.
8 to 18 March 1934 (90 years ago): The Mercedes-Benz 500 K (W 29) with supercharged eight-cylinder engine premieres at the International Auto Show in Berlin.
11 to 21 March 1999 (25 years ago): Début of the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class (C 215) at the Geneva Motor Show. It is the first production car with Active Body Control (ABC).
April 1894 (130 years ago): Benz presents the Motor Velocipede (“Velo”). It is the world’s first production automobile. 1,200 units are produced until 1901.
27 April 1924 (100 years ago): Christian Werner wins the Targa Florio and the Coppa Florio with the Mercedes two-litre racing car.
12 May 1984 (40 years ago): Twenty Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.3-16 (W 201) cars inaugurate the new Grand Prix circuit at the Nürburgring with a race. Ayrton Senna wins.
3 June 1934 (90 years ago): The era of the Silver Arrows begins with the debut and victory of the new Mercedes-Benz W 25 racing car in the International Eifel Race on the Nürburgring.
4 July 1954 (70 years ago): First start of the Mercedes-Benz W 196 R Formula One Silver Arrows and double victory in Reims (Juan Manuel Fangio/Karl Kling) in the French Grand Prix.
22 July 1894 (130 years ago): The Paris–Rouen competition is the world’s first automobile contest. Vehicles with engines built under Daimler licence win the main prize.
26 November 1984 (40 years ago): The Mercedes-Benz 124 series is presented to the international press in Seville. It goes by the name E-Class from 1993.
10 to 18 December 1924 (100 years ago): Première of the Mercedes 15/70/100 PS and 24/100/140 PS as compressor models of the international luxury class.
