Stuttgart/Chennai – Daimler Trucks announces a change in leadership with its successful commercial vehicle business in India: As of November 1st 2018, Mr. Satyakam Arya (45), currently Head of Customer Services at Daimler Trucks Asia and Chairman of PABCO Ltd., will take over as Managing Director and CEO of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV). He will succeed Mr. Erich Nesselhauf (55), who will return to Daimler headquarters in Germany to take over global responsibility for Manufacturing Engineering at Daimler Trucks, starting October 1st 2018. Just a few days ago Daimler’s truck team in India celebrated an important production anniversary: With the production of the 100,000th commercial vehicle in its Chennai plant in Southern India DICV reached another important milestone.

Martin Daum, member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, Daimler Trucks & Buses „We are writing a success story here: As the first newcomer in this challenging market we managed to build more than 100,000 vehicles in India since start of production in 2012. Erich Nesselhauf massively contributed to this success with his extraordinary commitment and his know how. With Satyakam Arya, a commercial vehicle expert from our local leadership team with a deep understanding of the markets in India and Asia, will now continue the growth trajectory of DICV.“

Satyakam Arya joined DICV in 2009 as the Head of Powertrain Procurement before becoming its Vice President of Global Procurement in 2013. He established the entire supply chain network for DICV and helped build India into an important part of the Daimler production system. In 2014, he moved to Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) in Japan as the Head of Global Procurement for Daimler Trucks Asia (DTA). In 2017, he became the Head of Customer Services for DTA while simultaneously fulfilling the role of President & CEO of MFTBC’s subsidiary PABCO. In this dual responsibility he has effectively grown DTA’s global parts and service business and significantly improved PABCO’s profitability.

About Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV)

In 2012 DICV had inaugurated its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Chennai (Tamil Nadu). The first BharatBenz rigid heavy-duty trucks rolled off the line in June 2012. In line with the expansion of the product portfolio to include medium-duty trucks (2013), construction trucks and tractors (2014) as well as buses and coaches (2015), the plant’s output continuously increased over the years. The milestone of 50,000 units was crossed in August 2016, and two-shift operations were introduced in 2017. With production according to Daimler’s global quality standards, DICV serves the Indian strategic growth market as well as more than 40 export markets across the globe. An integral part of Daimler’s global production network for trucks and buses, the DICV plant in Chennai is the only location worldwide which produces engines, transmissions, trucks and buses at the same site catering to four brands – BharatBenz, FUSO, Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner.
