Spa test gets green light

Formula One teams will test at Spa-Francorchamps in July after the final sign-off for the three-day run was given on Monday afternoon, as autosport.com predicted last week.

Sources have revealed that a document has been circulated to F1's Testing Committee and tyre supplier Bridgestone requesting them to finalise arrangements for the run in Belgium on July 10-12th.

It means that a test scheduled for Barcelona that week will now be cancelled, with the teams preferring to gain experience of the Belgian Grand Prix circuit ahead of September's race there.

Bridgestone's head of track engineering operations Kees van der Grint told autosport.com that his company was informed late on Monday that the test has been given the go-ahead.

"We have just been told," he said. "It looks like we are going to Spa for three days in July."

Although the test is scheduled for three days, new rules agreed by F1's Testing Committee mean that it can be extended for another day if bad weather affects running - something that is highly likely at Spa.
