Frozen car..
« on: November 28, 2006, 03:37:39 PM »
I've got at least three calls today from local Smart owners that the car was not moving when put in gear this morning. While all these cars were parked out-door over night; and it was driven yesterday. Including my own car. The sub-zero temperature and heavy snow that we rarely get here in the Greater Vancouver Area can freeze just about anything. The little power that we have from this car will feel immobilise when frozen.

If possible (when parked on near flat ground), put the car in reverse gear as the owner's manual instructed. But leave the parking brake off. This will prevent the rear brake shoe to freeze up against the rear brake drum. If the tires are frozen to the ground due to moisture. You will just have to rock it back and forth between 1st and reverse gear to break it loose.

I believe there is a condo that copied Europe where there is a car elevator to go to your floor and park inside.
