Mercedes-Benz Canada reported today that the group delivered a total of 1,564 Mercedes-Benz and smart units throughout the month. In addition, this month the company proudly celebrated the 125th anniversary of the automobile, with the original patent being filed by Carl Benz for his three-wheeled motor car on January 29th, 1886.
A total of 1,402 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and luxury light trucks were retailed in January. Strong B-Class, C-Class, CL-Class, S-Class, M-Class and R-Class model sales contributed to January’s results. Sales of the B-Class and S-Class were ahead by 36.7% and 33.3% respectively for the month.
The diesel take rate for luxury light trucks was 79.5% for the month, while permanent all-wheel drive 4MATIC™ units accounted for 76.2% of overall passenger car and light truck sales in January (excluding smart).
A total of 80 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter units, and 82 smart fortwos were delivered to customers throughout the month.
Mercedes-Benz Pre-owned sales reported 625 vehicles delivered for the month. This represents the best January sales for Mercedes-Benz Pre-owned, and an increase of 123 units or 24.5% compared to January 2010.
"In January, we celebrated a significant milestone by marking 125 years since the original patent application was filed by our company's founding father, revolutionizing transportation and ultimately laying the foundation for all present-day passenger cars," said Marcus Breitschwerdt, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada. Our historic commitment to always offer customers the absolute best, combined with our collective ambition to lead the industry, are proud components of our heritage that will continue to remain key factors for future growth as we invest in research and development to constantly ’reinvent’ the automobile."
