Ekstr?m wins at Le Mans ? Title decision in the finale
Le Mans. Mattias Ekstr?m (Audi) has won the tenth DTM season round from Paul di Resta (Mercedes-Benz). In changeable and difficult weather conditions, the Swede scored his third season win at the ?Circuit Bugatti? in the French city of Le Mans, the 13th race win of his DTM career. The podium was completed by Alexandre Pr?mat (Audi) who finished third in his home race. Points? leader Timo Scheider (Audi) came home sixth behind Gary Paffett and Bernd Schneider (both Mercedes-Benz). The final points? scoring positions were taken by Bruno Spengler (Mercedes-Benz) and Tom Kristensen (Audi) in seventh and eighth place. While Scheider had made the right tyre choice in the early stages of the race, di Resta was more lucky at the end. Next to their two mandatory pit stops, both drivers had to make one extra stop to have their tyres changed. With his second place, di Resta further reduced the gap to Scheider. Going into the DTM season finale at Hockenheim, Scheider is now only two points ahead of the Scot with 65 points. In spite of his win at Le Mans, Mattias Ekstr?m no longer has a chance of the title. With 54 points, he is third. An extensive press release with quotes from the drivers and motorsport directors will follow shortly.

Ekstrom wins chaotic wet Le Mans race
By Glenn Freeman Sunday, October 5th 2008, 13:32 GMT
Mattias EkstromMattias Ekstrom won a chaotic rain-affected DTM race at Le Mans, while Paul di Resta kept the title battle alive with second place.
Mercedes seemed to have blown their chances of the crown from the start of the race, when di Resta and several of his teammates started on wet tyres. The Audis were on slicks, and the C-class drivers were forced to make their first stops before the pit window.
That left di Resta out of the hunt as championship leader Timo Scheider led with Ekstrom in tow. The Swede moved ahead during the pit stops, but Scheider was still set for the title with second.
But a rain shower towards the end of the pit window played into di Resta's hands. As the only driver still with a mandatory stop to make, he took wets, and shortly afterwards everyone else was in to make an extra stop.
Di Resta rejoined fourth - just ahead of Scheider - and then passed Gary Paffett, before taking second from home driver Alexandre Premat who stayed on slicks. He then settled into second, unable to make an impact on Ekstrom.
Premat briefly lost third to Paffett, but as conditions improved the Audi driver regained the advantage to take a popular podium finish after a battling performance.
Behind their scrap, Bernd Schneider did di Resta a favour by passing Scheider for fifth with two laps to go when the Audi driver ran wide at Turn 3 after a long fight.
Bruno Spengler didn't quite have enough time to do any more damage to Scheider's championship lead, so the German heads to Hockenheim with just a two-point lead over di Resta.
