Lewis Hamilton poses with his car and the Lear jetLewis Hamilton found himself racing some more powerful opposition on Monday - when his Formula One car was pitted head-to-head against a Learjet 60XR plane.

The McLaren driver raced his Formula One car down the runway for a publicity event on the first day of this year's Farnborough Air Show, with the Learjet shadowing his every move 200 feet above him.

"Normally when I'm on the runway the planes are landing so I was a little bit nervous," Hamilton told the BBC afterwards. "But I was sitting in my car, they told me to go and I booted it to 280 km/h.

"I was sitting there on the limiter, I couldn't see where the plane was but I heard it was very, very good."

Hamilton was making his first appearance at the Farnborough Air Show, where he was fulfilling some of his duties as a Learjet Brand Ambassador.
