Lewis Hamilton has captured an amazing hat trick of trophies at the Autosport Awards in London.

The Briton has become the first man in the history of the prestigious event to win three awards on the same night - crowning his remarkable debut season in Formula One.

He first of all captured autosport.com's Rookie of the Year Award, before also being handed the British Competition Driver and International Racing Driver Trophies.

After being handed the rookie of the Year Award, Hamilton was already emotional as he received the trophy from former world champion Damon Hill.

He said: "Can I just say I am so proud to be here this evening, to represent the team I work for.

"I have a huge crowd of people from McLaren, Mercedes and my family here. It has been a pleasure up there racing for them. It has been a dream come true. I receive this for you guys, I love you all."

But then he was clearly taken aback when he was presented the British Competition Driver and International Racing Driver Trophies by Viviane Senna - the sister of his hero Ayrton.

"I am speechless," said Hamilton. "Ayrton played such an important part of my life.

"Through karting and through other stages of my career, and single seaters, I was always watching his videos and I never imagined how I would get to meet someone close to him.

"I was disappointed when I missed him (at the Autosport Awards) in 1995, a year too late, but I am honoured for you to do this. I am just speechless."
