S 315 GT-HD used for numerous practical tests in the 90s
Prototype with infrared laser night-view system, roof glazing and Lane Keeping Assist
Setra 300 model series in production from 1991 to 2001

Setra Buses & Coaches will present a touring coach from the 90s during this year's Lufthansa Classic Days (25 to 26 May 2013). As part of the special exhibition "Prototypes -- from a concept to series production", the brand belonging to Stuttgart-based Daimler AG is displaying an S 315 GT-HD in Hattersheim, Hessia. This coach from the 300 model series was used as a research vehicle by the developers, and is still equipped with various experimental features including the first variable roof glazing ever installed by Setra and a lane-keeping assistant which the brand tested in this prototype. The most striking feature of the S 315 GT-HD is the infrared laser night-view system, which enabled the driver to recognise pedestrians and cyclists at a considerable distance in the dark. With this system, two laser spotlights mounted at the front illuminated the road ahead with an infrared beam to a distance of up to 150 metres, without dazzling oncoming traffic. The developers used the S 315 GT-HD to test this invention, which won a research award at the time, under practical conditions.
S 315 GT-HD had its premiere in 1996
The S 315 GT-HD had its premiere at the International Motor Show in Hanover in September 1996. Even at the time, this high-decker coach from the 300 series built from 1991 to 2001 had numerous special equipment features on board. Bus operators were e.g. able to choose between different engine and transmission variants, retarders, air conditioning systems and door/seating configurations.
