Half points awarded from Lausitz

The governing body of German motorsport has decided to only award half the usual amount of points for the recent DTM race at Lausitz.

The race was thrown into confusion during two safety car periods, and several drivers believed that the results of the race were wrong.

The DMSB have decided that the results will stand, but only half points will be awarded.

A statement from the DTM added that the DTM commission, which is made up of representatives of the DMSB, series organisers ITR, and the competing manufacturers, had decided that the governing body needed to review the race.

"The basis for these decisions was the analysis of TV and video pictures as well as time sheets and protocols, documenting several wrong decisions of the race control," said the statement.

The decision reduces Paul di Resta's championship lead from eight points to four ahead of Mattias Ekstrom, who is not affected directly by the decision as the Audi driver finished out of the points in the race.

The officials have also decided that the amount of ballast added and subtracted for the next round of the series at Brands Hatch will be halved.

This means that the weight limits of the cars will only increase or decrease by 3.5 kilograms for the fourth round of the season, instead of the usual seven kilograms.
