Michelin North America, Inc. is spending an additional $90 million to further upgrade equipment and expand production capacity at the company?s manufacturing campus in Lexington, S.C. The site includes a passenger car tire factory and an off-the-road tire plant.

In August 2007, Michelin announced an investment of $350 million to upgrade and expand every major manufacturing facility in South Carolina. Of that amount, $110 million was earmarked for the Lexington manufacturing site. This latest additional outlay of $90 million is the latest in a string of company investments in Lexington County, totaling more than $900 million since establishing operations in 1981.

?Lexington has been a great place for Michelin to produce some of the best tires in the world,? says Jim Micali, chairman and president. ?And, we hope that Michelin has been equally good for Lexington County. We especially thank the S.C. Department of Commerce and the chairman and members of the Lexington County Council, without whose support this investment would not be possible. Their efforts directly impact Michelin?s ability to expand manufacturing at this site and to continue to provide quality jobs in Lexington.?

Michelin has two major manufacturing facilities located on the same campus in Lexington ? a passenger car and light truck tire plant, which opened in 1981, and an earthmover tire plant, which began operation in 1998. Together the two plants employ more than 1,700 people. Upgrades and expansion work is under way at both facilities.
