Awards for 14 partners from all business units

Stuttgart, Germany - Daimler AG recognized its best suppliers for their contributions on the occasion of its annual supplier conference in Stuttgart, the “Daimler Key Supplier Meeting”, with the “Daimler Supplier Award 2010”. As in previous years, 13 companies received awards in various categories. In addition, a special award was again presented for exceptional performance in the area of innovation.
With the “Daimler Supplier Award”, the company honors outstanding performance, which is determined based on a globally effective rating system. The principles of this rating system are defined in the supplier cooperation model “Daimler Supplier Network,” and comprise the four value drivers quality, cost and supply as well as technology and innovation. Additionally, the cooperation with suppliers gives special emphasis to fairness, reliability and trust.
At the beginning of the event, Andreas Renschler, Daimler AG Board of Management member responsible for Daimler Trucks, expressed the company’s deepest sympathy regarding the tragic events in Japan on behalf of all Daimler employees. All attendees of the event then observed a minute’s silence in memory of the casualties.
Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard, Board of Management member responsible for Manufacturing and Procurement Mercedes-Benz Cars & Mercedes-Benz Vans, Andreas Renschler and Wilfried Porth, Human Resources & Labor Relations Director, then expressed the company’s gratitude to the attending suppliers, especially for their contributions in jointly mastering the effects of the global economic crisis, and also focused on further cooperation and future challenges.
Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard referred to the ongoing product offensive at Mercedes-Benz passenger cars in 2011: "Let’s continue our cooperation that way for the launches in our plants to come - we have the best opportunities to be very successful, especially with our highly attractive product portfolio."
Andreas Renschler also highlighted numerous launches, such as the global family of heavy-duty engines as well as new products at Trucks and Buses. Referring to the global growth perspectives of the commercial vehicles business, he underlined: "When we’re heading to new markets, we need you to come with us. And when we develop new products, we need your core competences and your new ideas!"
Wilfried Porth pointed out that joint success may not only be measured by numbers: "It is our deep conviction that we can only be successful in the market if we are successful with respect to integrity and sustainability as well. We do not only stand for clean products, but also for clean business."
The Board of Management members, joined by the heads of the three operative purchasing units – Dr. Klaus Zehender, Procurement Mercedes-Benz Cars and Vans, Matthias Gründler, Procurement Trucks and Buses, and Wendelin Wolbert, International Procurement Services - then presented the Daimler Supplier Awards to 13 suppliers. In addition, Dr. Thomas Weber, Board of Management member responsible for Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, again presented a special award for innovation.
About 450 representatives of Daimler’s most important suppliers and some 200 members of the Daimler management – including Bodo Uebber, Board Member responsible for Finance & Controlling and the Daimler Financial Services business unit - attended this years’ Daimler Key Supplier Meeting.
