DTM Munich in 2012 even more spectacular

DTM

Wiesbaden. Following last year’s extremely successful debut appearance of DTM in Munich’s Olympic stadium, the fans may look forward to the second edition of this very special motor-racing spectacle. On 14th and 15th July, DTM returnee BMW will have the chance of battling it out with Audi and Mercedes-Benz for two titles - in front of their home crowd. To even increase the entertainment level for the visitors, the track layout was modified and the event format was optimised for both Saturday and Sunday. On both days, the DTM drivers will compete against one another in head-to-head duels contested on two separate short tracks. During the event, the crowds will be entertained not only by spectacular motor sport but also by a support programme featuring numerous highlights, such as live concerts, stunt shows and far more. Altogether, a perfect event for the entire family.

The track layout - the most important modification
If they succeed in keeping their cars on the racing line, the DTM drivers will cover 614 metres per lap. The two tracks with their synchronously mirrored layout offer the crowds the chance of following all the action at a glance. Following the start of both cars in the same direction, different reference spots allow for assessing which of the two holds the lead

At the same time, the security also was significantly improved: due to the new track layout, the two cars contesting a race can not touch or collide, this year. In the infield, the corners are bordered by concrete and at the outside, the track is bordered by markings. Thanks to these run-off areas, the car damages can be limited. Just as the championship rounds, the DTM event in Munich also is held with the German Motor Sport Association, DMSB, being in charge - and consequently meets the highest safety standards.

Saturday - manufacturer title in the relay format
On Saturday, the race action will be contested in the eagerly anticipated new relay format. The results of preliminary individual time trials will determine the pairings, with two drivers of the same manufacturer forming a team. These teams are going to contest the quarter and semi finals as well as the final to find out which is the best brand. One car always will be waiting in the pit-lane while the other is contesting its stint, with each of the relay-team members contesting two stints. There will not be any tyre changes or pit stops.

Sunday Sonntag - head-to-head battles for the drivers’ title
In the individual competition on Sunday, however, every driver will have to race on his own. In five rounds, they have contest head-to-head duels, with only the winner advancing to the next round, thus keeping his hopes for winning the prestigious title alive. The driver holding the DTM championship lead plus the three best-placed drivers of every manufacturer are the top-seed drivers and automatically advance to round two while the other 12 drivers will have to contest the first round, with only the six winners advancing to round two. From the quarter finals, the drivers will have to come in for mandatory pit stops.

Tickets can be booked at all the well-known DTM and ’Olympia Park’ ticket agencies as well as via the DTM-ticket hotline +49 (0) 1805 - 72 3000 (€0,14/minute from the German landline). Please find additional information at www.dtm.com.
