Oasis of peace

There are upwards of 1.3 billion people living in China today, and some 14.5 million of these inhabit Beijing District alone. But not far from the teeming capital, on a site measuring eight square kilometers (three square miles), 12 architects have managed to create an oasis of peace for the discerning visitor. The Commune by the Great Wall consists of 11 modern villas that nestle against the slopes and hollows like interwined, black and white yin and yang symbols. Some of the 46 exclusive rooms and suites hace a view of the Great Wall, and a private road provides access to what is the longest construction in the whole world.
