Title: Performance upgrades, tips for M103 2.6
Post by: Devonic on November 04, 2006, 12:43:00 PM
I have a 190E 2.6 that I am turbo charging, putting a cam in, cylinder head ported and polichsed, dished pistons (est. 400-500hp) . I need to know what would be the best trans and diff to put in it. And whatever little small extras I show get.

Good to see you here.

Those are quite optimistic numbers for that engine. How much boost do you intend to run? What life spend do you expect? Single or twin turbo?

I had done several Mosselman systems in the early years. 300hp for a daily driver was very reasonable. Some cars we ran the bigger 16v diff. with LSD. That blew-up in 2 years life.

One of the tougher transmissions is the 5-speed Getrag unit out of the 2.3-16.  The only problems are finding one and the fact that the ratios are pretty short as it was mated to a peaky 4-cyl.  That said, I don't know that it would stand up to 500hp.  Reportedly the Getrag is good for 350hp.  fasteddy has more relevant experience with this than I do.

Experience of the 16v transmission up to 350hp was satisfactory. Final drive can possibly up one notch to compensate highway speed.

Sorry about the delay guys!   :D Thought I'd give ya an update!
Just talked to some guys and it's possible to get 15psi to pump through this 2.6, but I'm thinking about keeping it at about 10 after I get the computer flashed and put a vortech fmu on it and a new fuel pump (mine is on it's last limb), and I'm looking into alcohol/water injection kit for it! At 7-8 psi w/ the a/w kit it roughly would have 320hp, so I'm hoping that with 10 (possibly 12  :-\ ??) I should meet close to about 350-400hp. I think that's good enough for this bad boy. And the life span of this motor I am not sure of... Depends upon how hard I drive it :D but, I know the brakes are a must have upgrade, and I have a buddy who has a Getrag for me so we will see :) and the 300E diff would work nicely... But... Until I have the safety issue dealt with she'll be running only at 8 max. The project is coming slow, but steady! I have a buddy who has a 2000 gtp and he wants to see his ride vs mine, so hopefully there will be some vids or something. ;D

Oh yeah! The turbo is a single Garret t3/t4 hybrid... With a JDM 35mm Wastgate. Exhaust is 2.5in mandrel bent down pipe to a 2.5in. inlet 2.25in. outlet high flpw cat, then dualed off with 2.25 pipes after the cat (all the exhaust is mandrel bent) ;D... Now, I'm debating on putting some glass packs on this car... The car is pretty loud with-out a muffler? Any suggestions on two mufflers (no fart cannons!!! I just want a true mellow tone to set this car off from all the rest), the other problem is I don't want to spend a huge amount on mufflers!  ??? Just inexpensive yet that will give the performance and mellow rummbling sound. Thanks ahead of time!

I don't believe there are many company the make strut tower bar for 201 anymore. The last I know was from Sparco. We use to get some from Demon Tweeks as well.

Click "Domstreben" on the left-hand menu for front bars and "Streben hinten" for rear bars.
