Di Resta 'fully committed' to DTM

Paul di RestaDTM race winner Paul di Resta says he is fully committed to racing for Mercedes in the touring car series this year, despite chasing a single-seater drive over the winter.

The 23-year-old had been linked to a move to either Formula 1 or GP2 for 2009, but he will return for a third season of DTM, after narrowly missing out on the title last year to Audi's Timo Scheider.

The Scot topped the final pre-season at Hockenheim last week, and he says his focus is now purely on the German-based series for the year ahead.

"We worked hard with Mercedes over the winter on our future," di Resta told AUTOSPORT. "I'm happy to still be involved in the DTM, and we're fully committed to doing well this year, I'm giving it 100 per cent.

"The DTM is a great championship, it's a good place to be, and I'm happy that I can keep my relationship with Mercedes and McLaren going this year."

Di Resta is joined in the HWA-Mercedes line-up by former champion Gary Paffett this year, and he expects the battle at the front of the field to be fierce.

"Obviously it's good to have Gary in the team," he added. "We're good mates, and we've been team-mates before [at Persson Motorsport in 2007].

"There's never much in it at the front of the grid, so I'm sure it will be close between all of us as soon as we get to Hockenheim next week."
